“It is not the density of cities that leads to people being infected, it is unequal access to adequate housing, energy, water, sanitation, transport, green public spaces, healthcare and education.”

People need to rediscover the value of proximity - to things and to one another. Rather than relying on cars and driving long distances to satisfy the everyday needs, anything can be available nearby. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic showed us that we need to rely on one another for taking care of our public and shared spaces for our own safety. This project is an urban model of a new neighborhood that is smart, sustainable, livable, equitable and healthy, that uses nature-based solutions, has a circular economy and favor active mobility and green spaces. It enhances the housing as a right and multifunctionality as a must. Also, the project enhances the individual buildings and large neighborhoods that allow people to socialize and not have the feeling of being abandoned. The new spatial reality of a post-COVID neighborhood should be having a stronger sense of collectiveness rather than an agglomeration of fragmented individuals scared to share the public spaces. The carefully chosen location and the design of mixed types of housing increases independence, but also connectivity and care. Many vulnerable people who fail to live independently are more susceptible to pandemics, which worsens their health, creates loneliness, and social exclusion. This model of a new neighborhood involves all people in the community, regardless of the socio-economic differences.
